Crosswinds: FAQ'S
I’ve decided to work with Crosswinds. What happens next?
Our team will reach out with a short set of forms. Once you send those back, we’ll open your new accounts at Charles Schwab and start moving your assets. Watch your inbox for a DocuSign request from Schwab Alliance. That’s your account paperwork, and it’s safe to sign.
How long does it take to get everything moved over?
Employer plans like a 401(k), 403(b), or 457 take about 10 to 30 business days, depending on the plan’s rules. We’ll email you to set up a call with your plan so you don’t have to handle it alone. Many plans mail you a check. If yours does, let us know when it arrives and we’ll tell you exactly where to send it.
Partway through a transfer, you might see a zero balance in your old account and your new Schwab account at the same time. Your money is in transit. It usually lands within three or four business days.
Insurance moves on the insurance company’s schedule, anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. We’ll check in with them often and keep you posted.
Who do I contact with questions later on?
For planning, investment, or tax questions, email your advisor. For transfers, logins, withdrawals, and paperwork, email retire@crosswindsfinancial.com.
Do you work with my CPA and estate attorney?
Yes. Our planning and investment teams work in-house, and we coordinate directly with your CPA and estate planning attorney. If you need one, we can introduce you to people we trust.
How do I find my Schwab account number?
Log in to Schwab Alliance and click the account name on your dashboard. Your eight-digit account number shows at the top of the page.
How do I see my accounts and track my investments?
Once your accounts open, we’ll send you an Orion login. Orion pulls in all your household accounts and syncs with Schwab a few days after the accounts go live. It’s the easiest way to see everything together.
How do I set up my Schwab Alliance login?
Go to the Schwab Alliance site and click “New User” under the login boxes. You’ll need an account number, your date of birth, phone number, and Social Security number. If anything trips you up, email retire@crosswindsfinancial.com.
Can my spouse or a family member see my accounts?
Yes. In Schwab Alliance, open your profile, choose Account Access, and pick the account and access level you want to share. You’ll repeat this for each account. They’ll get an email with instructions to log in. We’re happy to walk you through it on a call.
How do I update my address, phone number, or beneficiaries?
Email retire@crosswindsfinancial.com and we’ll help you finish the changes.
How do I tell my old advisor I’m leaving?
You don’t owe them a reason, and the transfer request notifies them on its own. If you’d still like to send a note, ask us for our short email template.
